349. I hope you do not just aspire to travel.

I hope you do not just aspire to travel.

Let’s admit it: Travelling is a privilege that some may not have. And I’d say too: travelling solo isn’t for everyone. Everything about life isn’t a one-size fits all. So don’t feel less of a person if you can’t or don’t want to. That’s perfectly fine.

It’s a means to an end, not the end. The point has been to grow, to break boundaries, expand comfort zones, to live consciously, and to learn, unlearn and relearn.

It happens that travelling solo has been one of the blessings I’ve embraced, am pretty good at, and in a position to do. It’s also one of my greatest teachers. The learning curves are steep, and every trip challenges me in different ways and forces me to look at, accept, and work on things about myself and my relationship with others. I question and redefine my personal beliefs. It allows me exponential growth within a short period of time. I’ve accepted that it’s not easy, which is why I freak out before every trip. My anxiety attacks shoot off the roof. But I’ve embraced it. Some people may break if they go through what I do, just like how I’d break if you force me to do something I’m completely out of depths with – like athletics or art, or God forbid, anything that requires fine motor skills.

Someone I’d met on the road told me this: “He’s going to challenge you in ways He knows you can handle and grow. If He doesn’t challenge you the same way as another person, don’t fret. You’re growing in different ways.”

Growth can come from so many means. Find the things that force you to continuously grow, to not stagnate, to use your blessings well. Then pursue it passionately, and pursue it well. If it’s travel, go for it. If it’s drawing or dancing or acting or cooking, great. If it’s learning a new language, academics, or skills, shine on. The means are abundant. Find it.

So no, I hope you do not just aspire to travel. I share my stories so that you aspire for something greater. I hope you aspire to be a blessing to others. I hope you aspire to use your God-given blessings well. I hope you aspire to be a bigger you.

I hope you aspire for greater.

  1. Jazakillah khair sis for the beautiful write-up πŸ™‚ thank you for reminding that ultimately, it is our own personal growth and progression that matters and that the means to which we achieve that vary, tremendously. I don’t know you personally but I hope to meet you someday insyaAllah! May your Ramadhan be blessed and meaningful!😘
