283. Level up!

I’ve always been in love with beaches. Sun, sea, surf – what’s there not to love?

That was why Mauritius was easily a dream destination.

Wearing the songket in Mauritius – REPRESENT!

20140926-112453-41093041.jpg20140926-112452-41092802.jpgI remember heading to Langkawi (or Penang?) when I was in the awkward stages of teenhood and telling my mother to not pack my swimming costume. I mean, hey, I was already facing body issues, no way was I going to swim in front of a group of people! But, oh boy, the moment all of us were gathered on the beach, I went WHAT THE HECK, WHO CARES? and jumped into the water with my t-shirt and shorts. (And sorely regret it after when I realised that I didn’t have anything to change into to head back to the hotel.)

I have since made better life decisions. I think.

Ah anyhoos, recently I have had the strangest inclinations. Call it growing up, external influences, a sudden need for change – whatever – but I have been attracted to mountains as of late. I mean, how can anyone not be, looking at the majesty of their being?

And I have the strongest desire to start hiking them.

Here’s a few that have caught my attention (and are making it to my bucketlist!)

*the following pictures aren’t mine, obviously.

Mt Rinjani, Indonesia

Sapa, Vietnam

Mt Bromo, Indonesia

Milford Sound, New Zealand

Arthur’s Pass, New Zealand

Annapurna Circuit, Nepal

Inca Trail, Peru

Tongariro Northern Circuit, North Island, New Zealand

North Drakensberg Traverse, South Africa

Grand Canyon, USA

Queen Charlotte Track, New Zealand

Everest Base Camp, Nepal

Laugavegurinn Trail, Iceland

Jomolhari, Bhutan

Mt Fuji, Japan

I’m hoping to go on an adventure at at least one of these by the end of this year. Hopefully it’ll work out, inshaAllah! Any of you darlings have any tips for this newbie? 🙂

Oh, and I guess I’ve got to start training from now then.

Lots of love,

  2. Awww its the best! I have hike 2 mountains so far…one being Mt Soraksan in Sokcho Korea and yes it is addicting! Go hike while you are still young and intact. Lol. NZ is great for mountain hiking too which is why I am heading there next year insyaAllah!

  3. hi! been following u on Instagram. truly grateful to u cos I managed to draw some strengths from the things and experiences u shared, going thru a hard time myself. I started hiking this yr. visited mt bromo last sept. didn’t hike up, instead took a 4 wheel drive. sunrise was magnificent from up there.just b prepared for the cold.

decided to climb mt Kinabalu this yr. I’m not exactly a physically active person, didn’t really prepare for the hike and it was my first hike..to think I chose the highest mount in sea. but it was worth it and managed to catch sunrise up there..I was one of the slower climber and the low oxygen level took a toll..but I’m sure u will have an easy time. go conquer it! 🙂
