“They ask you (O Muhammad) what they should spend in charity. Say: ‘Whatever you spend with a good heart, give it to parents, relatives, orphans, the helpless, and travellers in need. Whatever good you do, God is aware of it.'” – al-Baqarah:215
Undoubtedly, this is one of my favourite verses of the Quran, and something I hold very close to my heart.
We are blessed with so, so much, all in our own different ways. I believe it’s only apt that we give back to the ummah and to the world, in the little ways we can.
I have been sourcing for opportunities to do a TudungProject this Ramadhan, similar to previous ones for the children homes in Batam and the WinterforSyria aid done last year. Yet due to the demands of work (I am currently on a ten-week teaching practicum) and some personal commitments, I have not been able to draft out anything concise, and time is ticking.
Ah but verily when you want something and voice it out, the whole universe conspires for you to achieve it.
A dear friend of mine placed me in contact with some friends in Jordan, and a beautiful opportunity presented itself to me. And, here I am, presenting and sharing it with you, because hey, good things are meant to be spread around.
Did you know that there are more than 300 thousand Syrian refugees in Jordan now, and the number keeps increasing?
The Singapore Students Association in Jordan (SIRAJ) is working closely with Together We Build Organisation, a local Jordanian organisation, to help these refugees, and I am humbled to be able to participate in the same cause.
What attracted me to this particular cause is their strong emphasis on education. SIRAJ has a very clear aim in mind – to educate these refugees in the long run, while helping them throughout Ramadhan. You know I have a soft spot for education too. 🙂
They currently have three projects, and are as follows:
1) Ramadhan Project – feeding the refugees for Iftaar (S$6 per meal/S$6000 per day)
2) Shelter Project – Conversion of garage/store into livable rooms – inclusive of provision of main doors, kitchen and toilet. (S$1231 per house)
3) Madrasah Project – Training centres for Widows/Mums, Schools, Orphanage ( USD$700,000)
What I hope to do for this particular project is to help raise awareness for the project amongst our ummah, and also to help raise funds. InshaAllah, more TheTudungTraveller events related to this cause will be coming soon too.
For now, if you are interested to be a part of this initiative together with me, please drop me an email at email@example.com ! You may do a transfer to me at DBS Savings 019-4-082705, then drop me an email to indicate your name and the amount you transferred. I will then collate the total amount and hand it over to my friend in SIRAJ. They will then personally hand over the donations to the local organisation and will update me with the latest happenings. 🙂
Their aim is to reach $21,000 worth of donations, inshaAllah!
May the blessings of Allah be with us this blessed Ramadhan, ameen.
I leave you on this note, with a very moving Hadith Qudsi (Divine Hadith).
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
“Allah will say on the Day of Judgment, ‘O son of Adam, I was sick and you did not visit Me.’ He will say, ‘O my Lord, how could I visit You, when you are the Lord of the Worlds.’ Allah will say, ‘Did you not know that My servant so-and-so was sick and you did not visit him? Did you not know that if you had visited him, you would have found Me there?’ Allah will say, ‘O son of Adam, I asked you for food and you fed Me not.’ He shall say, ‘O my Lord, how could I feed you and you are the Lord of the Worlds?’ And Allah will say, ‘Did you not know that My servant so-and-so was in need of food and you did not feed him? Did you not know that if you had fed him, you would have found that to have been for Me?’ ‘O son of Adam, I asked you for water and you did not give Me to drink.’ The man shall say, ‘O my Lord, how could I give You water, when You are the Lord of the Worlds?’ Allah will say, ‘My servant so-and-so asked you for water and you did not give him to drink water. Did you not know that if you had given him to drink, you would have found that to have been for Me.’ (Muslim, Hadith no. 4661)
Lots of love,
