I was in the midst of writing the last entry for RainbowsforBatam; I was halfway through penning a pensive heart-on-the-sleeve piece; I was figuring out what to do on my next trip. I was in the middle of so many things but I just had to stop the juggling act and focus on this one thing that popped up.
It appeared on my Facebook newsfeed early last night.
There was no way I could ignore it. There’s no way you can too.
The snowstorm that has hit, and is still hitting, the Middle East, including Syria, is the talk of the town. It is phenomenal and its impact dire.
Syrians in Syria and in Lebanon refugee camps are facing a crisis and we are in the position to help. We need to help.
I did my research and alhamdulillah, this is an effort I am more than willing to partake in.
So here goes.
If you have been apathetic about many things prior to this, perhaps now it is time to feel.
Allah works in many ways. He has now opened up a way for us to help, alhamdulillah.
MERCY Operations (Facebook page here) is currently running a donation drive for winter clothes to be sent over to Syria. Both monetary and winter clothes donations are welcomed.
Cash donations will be used for freight charges, purchase of boxes (to put all the items), vacuum pump for the compression of the items to make it easier to store in boxes and the vacuum packets. The balance will be donated to Ummah Welfare Trust to purchase blankets (£6 each) or the winter packs for Syrian winter relief. All expenses will be documented
If the total collection of winter items is small, the items will be mailed to Malaysia Lifeline for Syria (MLFS) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The volunteers in MLFS will bring the items inside Syria, inshaAllah. If the total collections is huge, it will be sent by freight to Al Fathiha Global and they will in turn transfer all supplies to The Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (IHH) in Turkey to be sent directly to Syria refugees, inshaAllah.
There are various donation collection points around Singapore, so don’t worry about having to travel far to drop off the items!
Here are the contact details for the different area coordinators (From MercyOps Facebook Page):
I will be helping out with the Marsiling/Woodlands/Sembawang area from now until Monday, 23rd December. I know this is a pretty tight schedule to work with but I’m pretty uncomfortable to publicly write my contact number here (yes, I obviously have issues, haha) so… do drop me an email with your contact details at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any queries or if you wish to drop off donations at my place. Do leave a comment on my facebook/instagram/this entry when you’ve emailed me so I’ll know and I promise to contact you back asap!
At this point, what we need is donations. I’m sure there will be more opportunities to render help, like sorting out the donations and whatnots – I will keep you updated! (:
Abu Hurayrah relates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Allah will ask on the Day of Judgment: ‘Where are those who loved each other for the sake of My glory? Today, – on a day when there is no shade but mine – I shall shade them with My shade.”

There is no greater show of love than wanting for your fellow brothers and sisters of humanity, what you want for yourself.
We are all bonded by our humanity.
This is the chance. This is our chance to do what is necessary and right.
May Allah bless each and every one of our deeds and intentions and grant us His mercy and forgiveness, ameen.
Lots of love,
