The second stop for the day was Ffestiniog Railway Harbour Station.
Well, not the railway station in itself, cos there really was nothing to see except…. trying to figure out how to say the Welsh words (something that we started doing henceforth, hehe).
The station, however, was the place where we’d board the second highlight of the trip: the Ffestiniog STEAM (!!!) train.
Okay, here’s the thing.
I’ve always wanted to board a steam train ever since I read about them in history books (and well, watch them on cartoons) but it’s pretty hard to do that anywhere in Asia. So hey, my jakun-ness went up 1000x when I saw the train AND got into into the first cabin!
Try reading the Welsh words below. It’s so cool – there’s practically no vowels in it! :p
The train basically goes through the Snowdonia National Park, lending passengers beautiful views of the landscape.
Spot the castle!
We had a couple of stops along the way for the train to top up its water so grabbed the chance to take the above photo. Absolutely unbelievably beautiful!
The train ride took about 2 hours to get to Blaenau Ffestiniog, the end of the track. Along the way, the skies cleared up, alhamdulillah, and we managed to see how stunning the place really is. Don’t we just love blue skies? 🙂
Now I know why the sound for trains when I was a kid was “Chugga chugga chugga choo choo!!” ❤
